Fall wedding at Movida

An intimate celebration for Nnenna + Gya' - rich in culture and autumnal colors

Nnenna and Gya' are as smart as they are beautiful. And they're as fun as they are kind. Throughout our 11 months of long distance wedding planning, we shared many 'a laughs via Google Hangout video calls. This is a pure love; and the warmest kind of relationship there is.

An intimate wedding was always the goal, because Nnenna and Gya' have busy careers. This glowing bride is a Med-Derm Resident at Harvard University, and her handsome groom in blue is a Public Defender.

While we were planning their wedding, they were planning a cross-country move...one that (finally) resulted in them living together. It had been a long time coming!

Because our in-person planning meetings were few and far between, I really had to maximize our time by scheduling back-to-backs, and planned thorough topics that would help lay the groundwork for their wedding vision.

Wedding vision adjectives for Nnenna + Gya' were: warm, autumnal, boho, glam, Moroccan market-inspired, cozy, elegant and rich in culture.

We also made a point to source and support Black professionals and creatives in the industry. Specifically, Mikel from 414loral who singlehandedly pulled these design adjectives out in the form of floral arrangements + installations. What a talent!

Outside of design, the customs infused in this intimate wedding held weight + importance. Aso-ebi means 'the family clothes' and it was one of the most striking aspects of the day. I also loved money 'spraying,' which was the unexpected highlight of the reception! Guests sprayed Nnenna + Gya' with cash on the dance floor as a way of showering them with blessings and to keep them dancing on (through life!).

With bellies full of paella, sangria + homemade pie, guests left this October wedding in seventh heaven. As did I.
