provencal garden wedding: matt & karl

Updated: Apr 27, 2018

This incredibly intimate garden celebration proves DIY weddings sure as hell shouldn’t be written off. With countless elements of thoughtful & provincial day-of details, this wedding was authentic & joyful.

Five homemade wedding cakes were carefully baked & decorated the night before the wedding by one of the grooms’ aunt: black forest, lemon & lavender to name a few. Both grooms were hands-on during Friday set-up at the private Wisconsin garden property.

Every herb imaginable was incorporated into the floral décor, entrées or growing right across from the ceremony space. Matt & Karl were married in Calvin Klein tailored suits and exchanged hand-written marriage vows on a brick terrace overlook.

Guests played yard games like bocce and enjoyed locally sourced charcuterie boards and family-style, rustic meals. Matt & Karl sent their beloved guests home with mini jars of homemade jam and personal notes.

A snippet of their vow exchange:

I only make one not so simple promise. My vow is that every day I will recommit to the work, to the sacrifices and continue the dedication necessary so that the joy and love we feel in this moment might last 60 years and beyond. That is the vow I make to you today with all my heart and soul.
