I’ve always had really, really curly hair. Up until I had my babies and the pregnancy hormones tamed my locks, I was chemically relaxing, flat ironing and blowing out my hair on the reg. I only recently learned to work with my hair, not against it. Needless to say, when I was contemplating my bridal updo years ago, I was panicking.
As my girls out there can attest, curly hair is super high-maintenance and very often non-cooperative. I have a bride with very curly hair who is struggling to find a bridal hairstyle that would (1) be easy to do and (2) make her feel & look stunning on her wedding day.
So, naturally curly haired brides – what do you do? My first word of advice is; hire a professional. Even if you’re a control freak and like to do your own hair, consider hiring a professional stylist to do your hair on your wedding day. Curls are unpredictable and can be difficult to tame! You don’t want to be feeling like your hair isn’t cooperating on the most important day of your life (thus far).
My second piece of advice is: stay true to yourself. Stay in the same hairstyle family as your everyday hairstyle. I’m reiterating the fact that you don’t want to walk down the aisle looking unlike yourself. Your hairstylist will be incredibly helpful here in accenting & highlighting the beautiful elements of your existing hairstyle.
For very curly hair (like mine), I would imagine you’d be washing your hair the night before your wedding, then getting it professionally straighted or hot curled the day-of. Trust in your own styling by staying true to how you like your hair done the most; then don’t be afraid to rely on your stylist to complete the look for you!
