coffee break with yield bakehouse

Updated: Apr 27, 2018

Wedding planning is cool because of all of the beautiful people that I get to meet. For sure I’m talking about the couples getting married – but also all of the vendors gathered for an important day’s work.

Often times, I’m lucky enough to work with vendors, connect with them & realize *gasp* that they’re real people! Wedding vendors are real people with lives, hobbies, families and lovely perspectives. So, in an effort to shed some light on these hard-working creatures, I’ve started this coffee break feature.

For this coffee break feature, I downed a large latte while my friend Alexis, Owner of Yield Bakehouse, answered all of my hard-hitting questions:

How lucky are you and why?

Alexis/ Pretty damn lucky! Not in the traditional "find a lucky penny" kind of way, but in the "I have a lot of love around me" way. I sadly seem to somehow take it for granted from time to time, as a lot of people do, because sometimes I go through crappy situations and lose sight. But I have a roof over my head, my health, an AMAZING husband and family...and my friends, oh my friends. They are so wonderful and supportive. I couldn't live my life without them.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Alexis/ Ha, nothing even close to a baker! I wanted to be a marine biologist. I loved the idea of exploring the oceans.

What’s your Karaoke song?

Alexis/ Oh boy, it would totally have to be a group effort kind of song. I would be too nervous to get up in front of people alone, even drunk. Okay maybe even when I'm drunk, ha. This is going to make me feel old, but maybe "Lady Marmalade" by Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya, & Lil' Kim.

What Disney princess are you?

Alexis/ My gut reaction is Alice, just because Alice in Wonderland is my absolute favorite! But she's technically not a "princess," so I guess I'll have to go with Ariel. I love being around the water, I'm kind of a hoarder when it comes to kitchen items, and I've always wanted to be a redhead.

How do you take your coffee?

Alexis/ Black, like my soul! Ha, totally kidding...on the soul part.

What’s your favorite cake flavor?

Alexis/ I feel like it depends on my mood. If I want something light, then defiantly lemon blueberry. If I want rich and delicious, then I'm all about a heavy chocolate cake. I also really enjoy a simple vanilla cake though.

How do you stay organized?

Alexis/ Wait, am I? Most of the time I don't feel that organized, but I try. I'm totally a huge list maker...with paper and pen! I need to see things written down so that I can cross them off. It just makes me feel more accomplished.

Where is there light in your life?

Alexis/ I have certainly been through my fair share of dark, and sometimes have to be on medication to control my depression and anxiety. But my friends and family are my light for sure. No matter how dark (or lonely as an entrepreneur) things get, they make me SO happy. My business can also be my light at times. It's not always as glamorous as people may think, but there's nothing else I would rather be doing.

What is your favorite wedding trend right now?

Alexis/ Oh, I would have to say geometric designs! It's fun to me to be able to take something that's a bit more mathematical and turn it into a creative masterpiece. And, I think the geo shapes look so cool against a light and floral based design - love!
